Mayor's Message

Welcome to the City of Corning, New York.  As Mayor, I would like to offer you the following information about myself and my responsibilities.

The Mayor is member of the City Council, presides at meetings of the City Council, represents the city in intergovernmental relationships, appoints, with the advice and consent of the City Council, the members of citizen advisory boards and commissions, and performs other duties specified by the City Council.

The Mayor is recognized as head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes, and by the Governor for purposes of military law.

The Mayor recommends to the City Council and to the City Manager, from time to time, measures as he/she may deems necessary or expedient for the City Council to adopt in order to expedite or carry into effect any order, resolution, ordinance or act which has been passed.

The Mayor possesses all the powers and authority conferred upon mayors of cities by any general statute of the State of New York.

The Mayor nominates, with the approval of the City Council, the Board of Assessment Review, Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning and Zoning Commission, Library Board, City Health Officer(s) and the Acting City Judge as well as various committees.  The Mayor serves, ex-officio, as a member of all boards, commissions and committees.

These boards, commissions and committees are primarily made up of volunteers from our community.  I personally thank all of these community-minded people for sharing their expertise and commitment to our City.  I offer all of you an opportunity to serve our City by volunteering to become a member of one of our boards, commissions, committees. If you are interested, I would like to encourage you to complete a Volunteer form found on this website, which is submitted to my office and utilized to assist me in selecting nominees.
