Finance
The Finance Department manages and accounts for the City's financial resources. This department prepares the annual financial report, assists with the preparation of and monitors the annual budgets, invests city funds to protect assets, maintains fiscal liquidity and maximizes income in compliance with all governing financial and accounting laws. It is also responsible for the administration of the debt structure.
The Finance Department conducts a number of services for the public. Some of our most common services are:
- CURRENT CITY TAX BILLING, TAX COLLECTION, TAX SEARCHES
City taxes are levied July 1 and can be paid by July 31 without penalty. Contact the Finance Office for information regarding tax search requirements.
- CURRENT COUNTY TAX BILLING, TAX COLLECTION, TAX SEARCHES
County taxes are levied January 1 and can be paid by January 31 without penalty. They are returned to the County March 31. Contact the Finance Office for information regarding tax search requirements.
(NOTE: School District taxes are not received at this Office, but may be paid at Community Bank, W. Market St., Corning, NY 14830).
- WATER & SEWER BILLING & COLLECTION; RELATED INQUIRIES
Water and Sewer services are billed quarterly as follows:
District 1 January, April, July & October
District 2 March, June, September & December
District 3 February, May, August & November
Payments are due 20 days after bills are issued. A penalty of 10% is added if payments are not paid by the due date. In addition, 4 1/2% interest is added to any unpaid balance at next billing period. Bills remaining unpaid at May 31st may be relieved to the property tax bills. Payment of water and sewer bills are the responsibility of the property owner. If the property is sold, a final reading must be requested.
- PARKING TICKET COLLECTION; ENFORCEMENT
Parking regulations are enforced by the Police Department and tickets issued for parking violations can be paid at the Finance Office; or may be paid online at www.parkingticketpayment.com/corning . Parking (NOTE: Tickets issued for moving violations are not received at this office, but should be paid at the City Court Office located in City Hall).
Parking permits are available on a limited basis in City-owned parking lots. Please contact the Finance Office for further information.
In order to be included in the City's garbage pick-up process, all garbage must be contained in approved "blue" bags. The following rates apply:
15 gallon bag $1.25 each
30 gallon bag $1.75 each
