ASSESSMENT OFFICE
 
The primary responsibility of the Assessment Office to maintain equitable assessments and authorize property tax exemptions throughout the City.  The Assessor is required to administer the assessment roll in accordance with New York State Real Property Tax Law, the City Charter, and rules and regulations promulgated by the New York State Board of Real Property Services.  The assessment roll and property inventory data is maintained using the Real Property System (RPS) developed by the New York State Office of Real Property Services (ORPS).  Formal assessment appeals are considered by the Board of Assessment Review(BOR), a five-member administrative review panel.
 
2008 VALUATION
 
GAR Appraisal Associates, Inc. has been retained to conduct a city wide update for the 2008 assessment roll.  The purpose of this update is to assess all property at 100% of market value.

INFORMAL and FORMAL HEARINGS

 

The timeframe for an informal hearing has now ended.  All property owners who had an informal hearing were mailed a notice with the results of their hearing on April 9th. 

 

If you missed the informal hearing process or are disatisfied with the results from your informal hearing, you can file a written complaint with the Board Of Assessment Review (BOR).  The BOR will meet on May 6th to hear complaints.  You will be able to pre-schedule a formal hearing with the BOR anytime between April 9th and May 2nd by submitting a completed complaint form to the Assessment Office.
